Review
Meeting the four guys of VACO backstage at the NorVa for an interview, some photos, and of course to watch their show was a delight. These guys are all genuine and have a great sense of humor. They were extremely friendly and accessible. Their down to earth personalities were quite relaxing and comforting.
Although they seemed mellow back stage, they were just saving up the antics for the live show. They seem to go through some kind of metamorphosis when on stage. From the first note until the last they were all full of raw energy and excitement! ...

WCF:
This is William from WCFStudios here with Virginia Coalition out of Alexandria at the NorVa… Since you guys formed in ’98 how strongly do you feel that the college circuit has helped your success?
VACO:
1 Billion times…. No, it has been massively, massively instrumental.
WCF:
Ok, is it mostly when you first started playing you were playing in the college circuit or were you doing something other than that?
VACO:
You know bars, colleges, whatever we could get.
Any place they had beer. If they had beer, we would play there.

The NorVa has a state-of-the-art V-DOSC sound system.  They have a 36X24X4.5 ft. stage with 30’ of clearance for hanging sound and lights systems. You will have a great view of the stage from anywhere in the venue and to be sure you don’t miss a single thing there are several video screens and monitors located throughout NorVa that show the concert. And it looks cool. With wooden floors, brick walls, two full bars and two mini bars, the room’s clean design and sharp style make any patron (and band) look good.  The NorVa is a general admission venue with no fixed seating. There are a number of chairs and tables located on both the first and second floors. Seating is available on a “first-come, first-served” basis. They usually open doors an hour before show time.  The NorVa has a capacity of 1500 people and is a handicapped accessible facility.  Shows are all ages unless otherwise specified.  Smoking is not allowed on the first two floors of the NorVa but they do have two smoking lounges. The third-floor smoking lounge offers a view of the stage as well as video and sound feeds of the concert. The second smoking lounge is located at the outdoor patio beside the NorVa. They have a full bar on the first floor, a full bar on the second floor and a couple of mini bars scattered throughout.  If it’s food you want pizza, hamburgers and hot dogs are also available at the full bars.  If you or someone you’re with finds themselves slightly impaired before, during or after a show, the NorVa participates in a free cab service called Sober Ride. Just let a staff member know that you would like their assistance.

The venue and its box office are only open on show days.

The NorVa concert line is (757) 627-4500. You can reach the Box Office and the Production Office by calling (757) 627-4547.

Review
When meeting Courtney Criswell, lead singer of Lucky Town, it immediately became clear that it wasn’t “luck” alone that brings this band into the spotlight. After interviewing Virginia Coalition backstage at the NorVa Theatre in Norfolk, I spotted Courtney backstage in the rec. room coming back to visit with VACO band members. Lucky Town was the opening act that night for VACO, and I couldn’t have been luckier to have the opportunity to interview and photograph two quick rising bands based out of Virginia.....
