Fat Dog Festival

Fat Dog Festival 2004 will collect pet food and donations to help the local Animal Assistance League of Virginia. Bring a bag of dog or cat food to help out needy pets while they are waiting to be adopted. We will also accept monetary donations or you can go to the shelter's website for their wish list of other items they are in need of.

We wanted to let you know about an event that's shaping up to be one of the largest gatherings of local bands in the Chesapeake area (at least in Hickory). We are throwing a backyard barbecue and have invited seven local bands to play on Sunday, May 30th, Memorial Day weekend. So far, the lineup includes Control Council, Last Ditch Effort, Almost Always, Cesca, Metropolis, Dreadline and Jocelyn.

This is a family event with lots of food, games and music. But there will be an admission charge: a bag of cat or dog food. You see the guys in the bands wanted to do something for charity so all the pet food and donations we collect will go to help out the Animal Assistance League, a local animal shelter in Great Bridge. Also, one of the guys says his 60-year-old parents never get to see him play because they don't want to come to the clubs. So this is a perfect opportunity for young and old alike to watch the bands, eat some food and hang out under the stars, all for a worthy cause.

The Chesapeake Clipper has responded to our request to cover the event.
