To Whom It May Concern at VR1,
I seriously doubt that anyone from VR1 will read this, or even take a moment to consider the implications, however, you at VR1 need to reconsider this move of replacing FA2 with VR1's FA3 for both financial and social reasons.
The problem: You are alienating a large amount of your paying customers by discontinuing a game (product/services) that took years to develop and much time to master as a player (not to mention years of subscriptions). FA3 is too demanding for many of your loyal paying subscribers computers, is still in the development stages, and requires relearning skills that took players countless hours to develop on a game that they are not only comfortable with and enjoy, but have developed relationships and friends in the process.
A Possible Solution: While FA2 is still not perfected, it has become a source of revenue to develop VR1's FA3. With this in mind, I suggest to you that you continue FA2. You can add that revenue for further R&D for VR1's FA3 while hosting FA2 as well. This will keep the loyalty of your customer base as well as add an enticement for new subscribers. Your customers pay for VR1's subscription, allowing them to choose the game that their computer is capable of playing for themselves, either FA2 or FA3. While you could maintain limited support for FA2 and provide fewer rooms to reduce your server requirements and staff, the VR1 FA3 could be launched and further developed. In time technology will catch up to the game requirements and your customer base will be ever increasing.
If you do decide to discontinue FA2, not only will you be letting down your loyal subscribers, but your staff as well. How do you think the developers of FA2 feel about their prize work being discarded? And how about all the others involved that watched the game grow from FA 1.0 into what it is now through much effort from many individuals? You will not only be loosing revenue, but letting down a whole society. A whole social structure that was created through hard work, late nights, and paying customers. Don't fix something that is not broken. And don't break a community that is screaming to stay together.
One question now enters my thoughts........how long until FA3 abandons its paying customers only to release FA4, and assume that everyone will not jump ship, but will gladly embrace the change?
I think I may rather play pong. (remember that one?) lol
There is competition for your customers out there, as you know: X-Box, Dreamcast, Play Station 2, Store bought non-subscription on-line games, and many other distractions. If I were you, I would keep what you could have and build to it. Or you can take the gamble and chance the loyalty of your subscription base.
Thank you for your time.
